Europe During the Cold War (2010)
for string quartet and computer
A collection of six movements and a prologue depicting my travels through Italy and Scotland in the summer of 2009, this piece draws heavy harmonic, rhythmic and aesthetic influence from the popular music trends of each country (electro-pop and dance music from Italy and indie pop and rock from Scotland) in order to create a unique sense of contemporary compositional identity for them both.
The computer audio tracks (mainly comprised of various fragments from the prologue movement) allow the piece to take on a sort of theme-and-variations form where the programmatic ideals of the theme movement appear differently in each of the main movements in order to interact with them harmonically as well as subliminally.

Written upon acceptance to the 2009 soundSCAPE Composition and Performance Festival, this piece explores the emotional complexities of pain, loneliness, sorrow and
the memories of a much better life.

Waldorf-Astoria (2009)
for electric guitar, keyboards, acoustic guitar, record player, computer, music box, ukulele,
tenor voice, and computer
Given its premiere performance by Project Blue Book, this piece mixes improvisation, fixed-composition, High Culture and Pop Culture together to create a sonic love letter to Nostalgia,
New York, and the 20th Century.
Tiamat (2009)
for solo baritone voice
A setting of a poem by Alberto Nebbiolo, this piece presents the performer with the opportunity to compose a different final version of the score with each performance. The piece is broken up into three sections, and each section has three different settings of the same text. It is then up to the performer to decide which versions of each section to pick in order to create the final piece.
Written and performed at the 2009 soundSCAPE Composition and Performance Festival in Pavia, Italy, this piece recieved its world premiere performance by Aaron Engelberth and its North American premiere performance by Todd Boden.
Not in Kansas (2008)
for keyboards, viola, prepared electric guitar, Omnichord, piano, Marxophone, and computer
This multi-movement piece (which can be performed by an ensemble or a single performer), depicts four events which occured during a typical day in my Baltimore neighborhood, and deals with the growing pains that go hand-in-hand with beginning a new chapter in your life.
A mandolin can be substituted for the Marxophone parts. A loop pedal or appropriate computer software is necessary for solo performance.
On Space and Car Crashes (2007)
for synthesizers, electric guitar, marimba, vibraphone, civilian percussion, and computer
Fluxtuating between moments of grizzly tension and meditative serenity, this piece is comprised of six sections, each depicting a different stage of a car accident and the subsequent recovery. The piece also contains prolonged moments of silence, used to represent the gap (or space) in my memory concerning the events immediately preceding the crash.
The term "civilian percussion" refers to any piece of metal that can be used as an unorthodox percussion instrument. This piece calls for the use of three shovel heads (of various sizes) and a large metal "drum".
Brain to Body (2006)
for clarinet (Bb) and bass clarinet
An acoustic duet for clarinets depicting the effects of insomnia on the human body, this piece is heavily influenced by my early studies of electronic music.
